  • About

    A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) represents 1 MWh of renewable energy delivered to the grid. It helps offset the environmental impact of traditional energy sources. Companies use RECs to achieve sustainability goals and reduce emissions, particularly for grid electricity under Scope 2 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

     

    In Malaysia, mREC (Malaysia Renewable Energy Certificate) is the certified REC brand launched by TNBX in 2021. mREC ensures energy comes from renewable sources like large-scale solar farms and hydropower plants in Peninsular Malaysia. It complies with international frameworks like the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project).

  • Bundled REC

    What is it?

    Bundled REC combines renewable energy with your regular electricity supply on a single TNB bill. By subscribing to the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) programme, you pay a green premium to receive RECs for your electricity usage. This assures you that your energy is sourced from the local renewable grid.

     

    How to subscribe?

    You can subscribe via the myTNB Portal at www.mytnb.com.my. The GET programme provides low-carbon electricity without needing rooftop solar panels. At the end of the year, you'll receive a certificate (mREC) confirming your contribution to renewable energy.

     

  • Unbundle REC

    What is it?

    Unbundled RECs are standalone certificates that represent the environmental benefits of renewable energy, purchased separately from your electricity bill. Each REC offsets the impact of 1 MWh of conventional energy.

     

    Where to buy?

    You can purchase unbundled RECs through the Malaysia Green Attribute Trading System (mGATS). This platform lets you choose the type of renewable energy and the production year. For more information, please click here.
