SELF CONSUMPTION (SELCO)
-
About
Apart from Net Metering, SELCO is another option for you to generate electricity from your own solar PV system and thus reduce your electricity bills. SELCO lets you consume all the electricity generated by your solar system but no excess energy is allowed to flow into the utility network.
The new SELCO Guideline published on 1st of January 2025 specified new criteria for SELCO application.
For Grid-Connected System under Non-Domestic Consumer, no capacity limit is set on the solar PV installation while for Domestic Consumer the capacity of the solar PV installation shall not exceed:
- 5kW for single-phase 230V supply; or
- 12.5kW for three-phase 400V supply.
For Non-Domestic Consumer with capacity more than 72kWp, it is required to conduct Connection Assessment Study (CAS) and to install Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for the purpose of reducing the impact of intermittent energy production of the Solar PV System on the Grid System.
SELCO Consumer shall inform TNB on the installation of the Solar PV System by submitting a copy of the Form of Information of Solar PV Installation prior to the installation of the Solar PV System.
For Non-Domestic Consumer with capacity above 72kWp, it is required to have a license granted by Energy Commission under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 [Act 447]. Consumer is also required to submit the SELCO Form of Information of Solar PV Installation and related documents to Energy Commission before the commissioning of the solar PV installation.
For Non-Domestic Consumer with capacity 72kWp and below, consumers are required to submit the following documents to Energy Commission within thirty (30) days after commissioning of the solar PV installation:
- Form of Information of Solar PV Installation
- A copy of Supervision and Completion Certificate (Form G) and Test Certificate (Form H) of the solar PV installation duly signed by the Competent Person.
