DEFINITION
“Domestic Consumer” means a consumer occupying a private dwelling, which is not used as a hotel, boarding house or used for the purpose of carrying out any form of business, trade, professional activities or services.

What do you want to do?
STEP 1Determine your electricity load
Load up to 100A (<100A): Appoint an Electrical Contractor registered with the Energy Commission to complete the internal wiring and all technical requirements OR to apply on your behalf.
Load exceeding (>100A): Appoint an Electrical Consultant Engineering registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia to apply electricity on your behalf.
STEP 2Make application (for load up to 100A (<100A)
1)Appoint contractor
Appoint Electrical Contractor from the Energy Commission Electrical Contractor list.
The Electrical Contractor will submit the electricity application form and the required documents to TNB.
2)Fill up form
Fill the Electricity Application form and attach it together with required documents.
Sign the Electricity Supply contract (Electricity Application form) with TNB.
3)Pay essential charges
Pay the connection charges TNB has quoted with RM10 stamp duty and Electricity Security Deposit.
*You are required to pay all essential charges (connection charges, stamp duty and security deposit) upfront to apply for electricity.
*To get the best deals among the listed contractors, you are advised to liaise and request for quotations prior to appointing one.

Sign the Electricity Supply contract (Electricity Application form) with TNB.
2)Pay essential charges
Pay reconnection fees (RM3.00 for low voltage or RM80.00 for medium & high voltage and RM10 stamp duty

*You can only opt for this method if
TNB service cable and the meter board are present at the premise and in good condition.
No premise renovation has been done involving the internal wiring.
The premise internal wiring is in a good working condition.

*Note
According to Electricity Act 1990, you are advised to get your premise internal wiring inspected by a registered electrical contractor as a precautionary measure and to ensure the electrical wiring are in good condition.
It is the responsibility of the appointed contractor to trace the wirings (fill up Form G), test each wiring
circuits (fill Form H) and then declare the results to customers.
The process of applying electricity through contractor is as mentioned in the Newly Built Premise application process.
You must declare premise installation condition truthfully, as disparity from declaration may result in supply application being rejected.

3. Documentary Proof of Premises Occupancy
Proof of ownership (owner):
- Land Title / Latest Land Title Search / Strata Title; or
- Duly stamped Sales & Purchase Agreement containing the following pages:
- Agreement between Seller & Purchaser;
- Full premises address;
- Signature of both parties; or
- Proclamation of Sale (Complete pages)
In the absence of any of these 3 documents, the applicant must make an application as non-owner / occupier.
Proof of occupancy (non-owner / occupier):
- Valid period & duly stamped Tenancy Agreement containing the following pages;
- Agreement between Owner & Tenant;
- Full premises address;
- Signature of both parties
In the absence of the above documents, Akuan Pengesahan Permastautinan (e.g., by Ketua Kampung / Penghulu / MPKK) is required to be submitted together (IF ANY) with any relevant document that indicates the applicant’s occupancy of the premises such as:
- utility bills or invoices like Indah Water Konsortium (IWK); or
- telephone bills (landline only); or
- quit rent and/or assessment; or
- any official correspondence under the applicant’s name.

- authorized person’s name to sign application form;
- authorized person’s IC number;
- company official stamp;

4. Copy of Registration Certificate
Company:
- Application for Registration For A Company (Section 14) and Notice of Registration (Section 15); or
- Company (Form 9); or
- Certificate of Incorporation On Change of Name of Company (Form 13) and Company Director (Form 49)
Business:
- Certificate of Registration under The Registration of Business Act 1956 (Form D) and Latest Business Profile Search by SSM
Legal Firm:
- Letter of No Objection from Bar Council or any equivalent acknowledgement document from Bar Council; or
- Joint Management Body Certificate; or
- Management Corporation Certification; or
- Association Registration Certificate; or
- any other form of official registration document of the organization (for example, Mosques and Private Islamic Schools are registered under The State Islamic Department, or Cooperatives are registered under Cooperative Commission of Malaysia)
5. Documentary Proof of Premises Ownership / Occupancy

Closing an account
If you are vacating a premise indefinitely (such as moving out after selling a premise), you should close your electricity account. When you close your account, the electricity supply to the premise will be terminated and depending on cases, the electric meter will be removed.
Until they do so, you are still liable for the electricity consumption and payment for the account.
STEP 1Fill up form
Submit the Close of Account form together with required documents.
STEP 2Pay outstanding electricity charges
Pay off your outstanding electricity charges based on latest bill at Kedai Tenaga, any TNB authorised payment channels or TNB Payment Gateway.
STEP 3Get final meter reading
TNB personnel take final reading and cut-off electricity supply to determine the final charges up to the account closing day.
Premise must be accessible for this purpose.
STEP 4Get deposit refund
Basic deposit refund calculation: Refund = Deposit – Final Charge (if any)
Deposit refund can be done through bank transfer (first priority), cheque (posted) or transfer to your other active account.
Deposit refund (if any) will be done within one (1) month.

Notes:
- If the security deposit refund is to be credited to a company director’s personal bank account or to a company bank account that does not match the registered account name, an Indemnity and Letter of Undertaking must be completed and duly stamped.
- If the account closure request is submitted by a Company Director, the authorisation letter is not required. Instead, the applicant must provide Form 49 or relevant SSM documents confirming the Board of Directors.

Deceased Registered Owner
Required Documents by Applicant: DECEASED REGISTERED OWNER
1. Application Form signed by a next-of-kin
2. Death certificate of the deceased
3. Completed Indemnity Bond Form with LHDN stamping
Note: If the registered owner is deceased, a next-of-kin may close the account and claim the deposit, but is required to produce the mentioned documents. The Indemnity Bond Form can be obtained from any Kedai Tenaga or you may download it here.
