Top 5 DOs & DON’Ts for Electric Vehicle (EV) Home Charger
1. Engage qualified professionals.
Use only ST-registered Competent Persons/ Contractors.
2. Check electrical capacity first.
Assess wiring, DB, and total load before installing.
3. Use approved charging equipment.
Install ST-SIRIM approved wall box chargers and use Mode 2 or Mode 3 only.
4. Install proper safety protection.
Use a dedicated circuit with 30 mA RCD (Type A with DC detection or Type B).
5. Get a test report after installation.
Obtain a test & commissioning report and perform regular checks.
1. Don’t DIY installation.
Never install or modify EV charger wiring yourself.
2. Don’t tamper with TNB equipment.
Do not interfere with TNB fuses or supply systems.
3. Don’t use Mode 1 charging.
Direct charging from a normal wall socket is not allowed.
4. Don’t use extension cords or 13A sockets.
They can overheat and cause fire hazards.
5. Don’t use uncertified chargers or installers.
Avoid equipment or contractors without ST or SIRIM approval.
